The Mission of the Summer Solstice Trail Run:
It has long been our quest to promote running and good health, to encourage individuals to set goals and make the commitment to a more active lifestyle. Of course, our mission has also been to help make running and fitness not only good fun but social besides. And it will always be our earnest wish to celebrate victory with every competitor who has the courage, the grit, and the will to be at the start line.

The History of the Summer Solstice Trail Run:
Oh, how it all began. We’ve been running in the Orangeville and Mono hills for years, and when we returned from the 2000 Marine Corps marathon in Washington, we realized we wanted to share our love of running – and in particular, trail running – with our community. After all, running had given us so much – wonderful friendships, the strong sense of accomplishment that comes with completing training goals, and the spark for adventure that only narrow footpaths and forests of fantastic trees can bring – and we wanted to give something back. We could think of no better way than to invite others to run with us on the winding trails of beautiful Mono Cliffs Park, to mark the beginning of summer. And thus, the Summer Solstice Trail Run was born. To our heartfelt delight, the run is now in its ninth year, and has brought legions of happy people, ready to get sweaty and celebratory under the glory of warm June evening skies. Here’s to summer!

Course: The 5km and 10km (approximate distances) loops are on trail. As well, again this year we’ll have a 3km recreational walk. Terrain is of varying degrees of difficulty. (But constant degree of beautiful-ness.)

Water Stations: Water will be provided courtesy of Watermaker at the start/finish area and on the course. Runners may wish to carry their own water supply. Gatorade will be available at the start/finish area.

Food: In the finish area, food, glorious food, will be provided, courtesy of Zehrs.

Facilities: Washrooms arelocated at the start/finish area.

T-Shirt: Yes! Of course we’ll have T-shirts. (Yay!) But, we must advise you we can only guarantee you a t-shirt if you register before June 1, 2009. You’re duly warned.

And great, exciting news, this year we have a wonderful new t-shirt supplier, GUATS Soft Goods. GUATS is a Canadian active lifestyle company focused on making comfortable, premium clothing from sustainable sources. All GUATS t-shirts are knitted and made in Canada (Toronto actually) – the fabric is a bamboo/cotton blend (70/30) that’s amazingly soft to the touch (we can attest to that), with impressive performance characteristics. (In other words, you’re going to really love this t-shirt.)

Awards: Top three males and females in each of the two categories – up to age 29, and age 30 and over – in the 5km and 10km runs will receive medals.  There’ll also be lots of lovely draw prizes at the awards ceremony.

Cost:
Trail run or walk (before June 1/09) $40
Trail run or walk (after June 1/10) $45
Family rate (3 or more) $30 each (after June 1/09) $35 each

Children under 10 may participate in the walk for free (and must be accompanied by a participating adult). T-shirts not available for children, and all children will receive a finisher’s ribbon. All cheques can be made payable to “Summer Solstice Trail Run”.
